Successful Big Air Event: The Big Air Open 2023 in Viana do Castelo

On August 26th and 27th, the Portuguese city of Viana do Castelo witnessed an exciting event that brought together Portugal's best kitesurfers and talented international riders. Organized in collaboration with the Viana do Castelo Sailing Club and supported by the FeelViana Sport Hotel, the "Big Air Open 2023" was a technical tournament that marked the second event of the year in Portugal.

The event began with a warm welcome at the Feel Viana Bar on August 26, where participants and spectators enjoyed a welcome cocktail, DJ music, and a festive atmosphere that marked the start of two action-packed and exciting days.

During the competition days, riders had the opportunity to enjoy the Feel Viana wake park and attend Demo Day, where leading brands such as Duotone, North, Ozone, Spleene, and Core presented their latest developments. This gave participants the chance to try out cutting-edge equipment and learn about innovations in the world of kitesurfing firsthand.

The highlight of the event was undoubtedly the Big Air competition, where the height of the jumps, the difficulty of the maneuvers, and the level of risk were carefully evaluated by an experienced panel of judges. Competitors demonstrated their prowess in the air, defying gravity and the winds of Viana do Castelo in an exciting pursuit of perfection.

In addition to the main competition, a Surfr competition was held during the event, open to all those wishing to compete in their respective categories (highest jump, duration, distance, etc.). The goal was to reach the highest jump possible and compete for trophies and prizes sponsored by Spleene Kiteboarding, Mike Davis, and Core Kiteboarding. This parallel competition added even more excitement to the event and allowed riders of different skill levels to showcase their skills.

The 2023 Big Air Open in Viana do Castelo was a resounding success, highlighting the passion and dedication of the kitesurfing community. The Portuguese city provided the perfect setting for this event, with favorable winds and a vibrant atmosphere that left everyone present with lasting memories.
