The world's best riders will meet this weekend at the 5th Tarifa Wing Pro.
From May 3 to 5, with the support of the Provincial Council, the town will host the second stop of the GWA Wingfoil World Tour.
Wingfoiling is a new water sport discipline in which Tarifa has made a name for itself. Firstly, as a venue for international competitions, and secondly, as the birthplace of some of its finest exponents, such as the current world champion, Nia Suardíaz. Both will be present at the 5th Tarifa Wing Pro, a GWA Wingfoil World Tour event, to be held on Valdevaqueros beach from May 3rd to 5th.

The presentation of this sporting event took place at the Provincial Council of Cádiz, a collaborator with the organization along with other entities such as the Regional Government of Andalusia and the Tarifa City Council. Javier Vidal, Second Vice President and Head of the Sports Service, highlighted the importance of holding this competition in Tarifa, not only for the sporting event itself, but also for the "economic impact" it has on both the town and the rest of the province. The Provincial Council's collaboration with the organization also aligns with the provincial government's strategy to present the province as a host of major events, while also promoting sporting activities.
The regional delegate of the Andalusian Regional Government's Department of Tourism, Culture, and Sports, Tania Barcelona, also highlighted the interest in hosting this world championship in the town of Campo de Gibraltar to "promote the brand of Tarifa, Cádiz, and Andalusia linked to sliding sports to the entire world." For his part, the mayor of Tarifa, José Santos, thanked the organizers for their work because "these sports give Tarifa an international reputation" and "help extend the tourist season."
More than 80 men and women of diverse nationalities will participate in the 5th Tarifa Wing Pro, which represents a "successful turnout," according to Jaime Herráiz, who spoke on behalf of the organization.
The timing of the various events will depend on weather conditions. Schedule updates will be posted on the Wingfoil World Tour social media channels.
In addition to those mentioned, the presentation ceremony was attended by the Tarifa City Council's Tourism Councilor—and provincial deputy—Ignacio Trujillo, and the Councilor for Sports, Celia Rico.
