The Cierzo Festival returns to the La Loteta reservoir to celebrate the Aragón Kitesurfing and Wingfoil Championship and Open . With more than 50 confirmed participants from all over Spain, the event promises to be a spectacle where the Cierzo wind will showcase the best athletes in the categories of Race Twintip, Race Foil, Big Air, and Wingfoil.
This year, the participation of young people under 18 stands out, some of them with podium finishes at the World and Spanish Championships held in Tarifa. Many of these juniors have never competed in La Loteta and will be facing the force and power of the north wind for the first time.

As a major innovation, this 12th edition has opted for an open calendar, ensuring the competition can be held in optimal weather conditions. A four-week waiting period will be established, during which athletes will be informed of the event's holding date three days in advance. The first scheduled dates are October 19-20, and if there is no wind, the competition will be moved to the weekends of October 26-27, November 2-3, or November 9-10. The event schedule will be Saturday, from 10:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Sunday, from 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., culminating with the trophy presentation.
In addition to the competitions, the Cierzo Festival will offer a wide variety of activities for all attendees. On the Friday before the event, a group of local DJs will provide live music for the afternoon in Plaza de España in Luceni. On Saturday and Sunday, the music moves to the La Loteta reservoir, where there's also a food truck with food and drinks for a complete experience. As a new feature, the Flush Tattoo studio will bring its needles and ink to La Loteta for those who want a tattoo as a unique souvenir of the Festival. And, as has been the case since the first edition, top brands in the kitesurfing and wingfoiling sectors will also be present, presenting their new designs for 2025.
"The Cierzo Festival is more than a sporting event: it's a celebration of all of us who are passionate about kitesurfing. For us, it's the most anticipated gathering of the year," says Juan Carlos Calvo, festival organizer and president of the La Loteta Kitesurf Club. From the Aragonese Sailing Federation, president Miguel Sánchez Barrasa says: "We invite everyone to the beaches of Luceni to experience an unforgettable weekend with the best athletes from Aragon and Spain."

The Cierzo Festival is an annual event that brings together kitesurfing and wingfoiling enthusiasts in a privileged natural setting. With high-level competitions and activities for the whole family, the festival is celebrating its 12th edition, having established itself as a must-attend event on the sporting calendar for kitesurfing and wingfoiling enthusiasts in Spain.
The Cierzo Festival has a significant economic impact on the area during the event, as hundreds of people visit La Loteta Reservoir that weekend. The four kitesurfing schools that operate at the reservoir, as well as nearby hotels and restaurants, note a significant increase in activity during these days. This fulfills one of the organizers' main objectives: to position La Loteta Reservoir and its spots (Luceni Beaches, Boquiñeni Beaches, Gallur Beaches, and Magallón Beaches) among the favorite destinations for all wind sports enthusiasts.
For Juan Carlos Calvo, "it's the best way to highlight our reservoir as one of the best spots in Spain for kitesurfing." The president of the Aragonese Sailing Federation, Miguel Sánchez, adds that "lashed by the north wind, in the Ebro Valley in general, and in La Loteta in particular, we have as many windy days as other better-known spots, Tarifa or Fuerteventura, for example." He concludes: "Despite being far from the sea, here we have equal or better conditions for practicing any water sport thanks to the north wind."
The event is being held thanks to the main sponsorship of Turismo de Aragón, Ámbar Beers, and Amazon AWS InCommunities. It also has the support of the Provincial Council of Zaragoza, the Ribera Alta del Ebro Region, and the Luceni City Council, and the participation of Chocolates Lacasa.
The festival will feature the leading brands in the kitesurfing and wingfoiling sector: kite, bar, and board manufacturers and distributors F-One, Manera, Ozone, Sabfoil, Duotone, Ion, North, Eleveight, Halley Kiteboarding, and La Boutique del Kite; clothing and accessories brands Kai Clothes and KOH Sunglasses; and Sueltalabarra as a specialized media outlet.

I'm grateful to Jorge Herrero, the event organizer, and Haiku Comunicación for this underappreciated work, for being behind the writing to produce all of these articles.
