With 25 men and 18 women from 15 nationalities, the competition kicked off at a stratospheric level. The judges made it clear: power, fluidity, speed, and wave selection were key. And the riders certainly proved it!

Women's Division: Delannoy takes the glory here 🏆

The women's competition opened with epic conditions. British talent Katie Evans surprised everyone by eliminating veteran Charlotte Carpentier. Bruna Kajiya, the queen of freestyle, ran into wave expert Camille Losserand, who snatched her place in the quarterfinals. Moona Whyte, unstoppable, knocked out Kesiane Rodrigues with two nine-point waves. It's a beast, and you can see it in this video!

In the semifinals, Capucine Delannoy swept Serena Luz, and Moona Whyte continued her winning streak against Camille Losserand. The final was a clash of titans between Delannoy and Whyte. With a flawless performance, Delannoy took the win, her first in Cape Verde! 🤩

"I'm very happy to win here," said Delannoy. "Ponta Preta has always been my dream competition. Sharing the final with Moona was very special."

Men's Division: Matos conquers Ponta Preta 🌊

The men weren't far behind. From the start, Brazilians Artur Morais and Pedro Matos made it clear they were going all out. Locals Airton Cozzolino and Mitu Monteiro defended their territory tooth and nail. Airton Cozzolino set the bar with a stratospheric score of 18.70. Crazy!

Pedro Matos had an epic duel with Mitu Monteiro, eliminating him in front of his home crowd with a wave of 8.50 points. Nicola Abadjiev, despite a great performance, was unable to overcome world champion Gabriel Benetton. Big Air specialist Lorenzo Casati fell to the young talent Santiago Lima.

The quarterfinals left us breathless. James Carew and Sebastian Ribeiro faced off in a dramatic duel. Ribeiro scored 9.17, knocking Carew out of the running. The semifinals were a Brazilian feast, with Cozzolino advancing to the final after a close duel with Ribeiro. Pedro Matos, with a solid performance, eliminated Gabriel Benetton.

The final was a clash of titans between Cozzolino and Matos. The crowd went wild, the flags were waving, the tension in the air... a spectacle! Matos, with a 9.0-point surge in the final minutes, took the victory. And now we'll have to see or be at the party they're going to have. 🎉
