SUELTALABARRA Family! The east coast of Gran Canaria has been the scene of an epic final, where all eyes were focused on the Gran Canaria GWA Wingfoil World Cup 2025. This edition, which has marked a milestone in international nautical sport, has crowned the new queen of the world of Wingfoil Freestyle .
The Duel for the World Crown
With the cancellation of the race in Brazil, the 2025 Gran Canaria GWA Wingfoil World Cup became the final event to declare the world champion. The pressure was on two Spanish riders : Nía Suardíaz , the current champion and world leader, and Mar de Arce , her main rival and number two in the standings. The duel between these two talented riders from Tarifa kept everyone on edge until the very last moment.
A road full of unexpected twists and turns
The season has been full of surprises. Germany's Marie Schlittenbauer , just 15 years old, made an impact with her victory in Fuerteventura, earning crucial points that placed her as a real threat in the standings. Nía Suardíaz, meanwhile, had to defend her position after a fifth-place finish in the same event, which narrowed her lead in the rankings.
Mar de Arce arrived at El Burrero after a brilliant season, boosted by a victory in Tarifa and a second-place finish in France. Her consistency kept her a strong contender for the world title.
Semifinals and an unforgettable final
At El Burrero Beach, the women's Surf-Freestyle was at its highest level. The qualifying rounds produced some standout moments, such as Nía Suardíaz's flawless backflip and Marie Schlittenbauer's powerful Palau Frontside / frontflip combination.
Among the most popular and popular tricks performed during the 2025 GWA Wingfoil World Cup in El Burrero (Ingenio), the backflips (a backward flip with a full turn), frontflips (a forward flip), and 360 Shiftys, which require coordinated twists of the board and wing in opposite directions, stood out. In addition, maneuvers such as the backmobe, a technical variation that combines an inverted rotation with a handle pass in the air, and the palaus, characterized by their complex sequence of multiple rotations and precise control of the wing at all times, have been incorporated.
The final battle took place on Friday with a thrilling semifinal. In the first heat, local rider Mar de Arce competed alongside Viola Lippitsch, Bowien Van Der Linden, and Manon Dupé. In the second heat, Allegra Caffi, Zara Maillard, Marie Schlittenbauer, and Nía Suardíaz faced off. With this lineup, the day promised something new and delivered.
