KITE UNDER ZERO Calafate Windfest 2025: Kitesurfing, Wingfoil and a giant iceberg

The Calafate Windfest 2024 left us speechless!

Can you imagine sailing on a giant iceberg? Well, it became a reality in El Calafate! On January 16, 17, and 18, the 4th edition of the Calafate Windfest 2025 gave us a weekend full of adrenaline, friends, and incredible scenery. Organized by the Kite Bajo Cero Civil Association, this event, like every January, became a true celebration for water sports lovers.

This year, Windfest wasn't just about kitesurfing. There was also windsurfing and wingfoiling! ‍♀️‍♂️ That's right, a true party for wind and water lovers, with equipment demos and clinics with world-class riders like Claudia León (Team Duotone) and Santiago Cisneros (Team Ozone). And as if that weren't enough, a big air and downwind championship touring the most incredible spots in El Calafate. Always ending with a great bonding party.

A unique adventure sailing past a glacier!

In parallel to the event, a group of riders embarked on a unique expedition: sailing over an iceberg that had calved from the Perito Moreno Glacier. Yes, you read that right! Santiago Cisneros and Lisandro Fasce were in charge of gliding over this ice giant, creating an audiovisual video that left us speechless.

El Calafate, a paradise for riders!

Thanks to this event and the incredible conditions offered by the area, El Calafate is positioned as one of the most attractive destinations for kitesurfing, wingfoiling, and windsurfing internationally. With constant winds, spectacular landscapes, and a constantly growing tourist infrastructure, this Patagonian city has everything it needs to become a water sports mecca.

And the good news doesn't end there. For 2026, the Kite Bajo Cero Civil Association is already working on a national kitesurfing championship, which will serve as a point for the national ranking. The goal is to position El Calafate as a leading international destination for these sports.
