Share
Hello, kiters and wingfoilers! 🪁👋 Today on SUELTALABARRA we're going to talk about a company that's making waves in the world of kitesurfing and sustainable fashion: Kai Clothes . This company not only recycles kitesurfing and nautical sails, but also transforms them into garments and accessories with a unique style and a story to tell.

Keep reading to find out all about them and their incredible project! 🌟
Who are Kai Clothes? 🌍
Kai Clothes is a company founded by Israel Ferrer, a kitesurfing and sustainability enthusiast. 🚀 Based in Spain, Kai Clothes designs, manufactures, and sells jackets and accessories using recycled kitesurfing and nautical sails. Each year, in Spain alone, around 800 kites are sold, equivalent to approximately 8,000 square meters of specific textile material (RIPSTOP), which, unfortunately, has a very short lifespan for sports use. 🌬️
The problem of waste 🌱
Kitesurfing, like any other sport that uses heavy-duty equipment, generates a large amount of textile waste. 🌊 Once a kite has reached the end of its useful life for the sport, it is often discarded, contributing to the growing amount of plastic and textile waste on the planet. This is where Kai Clothes comes in, recovering 90% of the kite fabric to give it a new life. ♻️
The transformation of your KITE into Fashion 🌟
Israel and his team at Kai Clothes not only recycle these fabrics, but also transform them into a variety of products, including jackets, bags, hats, and, most recently, recycled flip-flops! 🌈👕 Their products fall into two main categories:

1-100% recycled kite products : Here we find jackets, bags, wallets, and backpacks. 🧥👜

2- Fused products : These items combine kite fabrics with other recycled materials, such as EVA foam for flip-flop soles and recycled cotton or polyester for caps.

Collection and recycling 💚
Kai Clothes has a highly innovative materials collection system. They attend sporting events and competitions, where athletes can turn in their used sails in exchange for branded accessories. 🎁 They also have collection points in physical stores and collaborate with elite athletes to spread their mission. 🌟
Production and future 🚀
Currently, Kai Clothes produces around 12 jackets per month , along with 400 accessories , 100 hats , and 15 flip-flops . 🧥👟 By 2025, they plan to increase their production capacity by 50% , allowing them to expand their positive impact on the environment. 🌍
An emotional touch ❤️
Each Kai Clothes jacket isn't just a garment; it's a piece of kitesurfing history. 🌊 As Israel says, his jackets carry "emotion," allowing athletes to preserve a tangible memory of their adventures in the sea. It's like carrying a piece of those magical moments under the wind and sun with you! ☀️

Kitesurfing and Sustainable Fashion Curiosities 🌟
- A kitesurfing kite can withstand winds of up to 50 km/h. Remember not to leave the kite inflated unused, causing wear and tear, and give it a good run before its lifespan begins to deteriorate significantly. 🌬️
- Recycling a kitesurfing kite can save up to 8 square meters of textile material that would otherwise end up in landfills. ♻️
- Kai Clothes uses artisanal tailoring techniques to ensure each jacket is unique and durable. 🧥
