What is kitesurfing and why is it so cool?
Kitesurfing is an extreme sport that combines surfing, kites, and wakeboarding. Kitesurfers glide across the water on a special board, assisted by a wind-powered traction kite. The kite is attached to the body by a harness, allowing the participant to perform high jumps in the air or glide over the waves. 😎
Kitesurfing is a sport that offers many health benefits, such as reducing stress and anxiety, improving balance, coordination, and concentration, strengthening and toning the body, and promoting a healthy heart. 💪
Kitesurfing originated in the late 1970s in southern France and has since spread worldwide. It's estimated there are more than 1.5 million kitesurfers worldwide. 🌍 And only 36,000 of them are followers of @sueltalabarra 💖
Who are the Dutch kitesurfing champions?
The Netherlands is another country with a long tradition of kitesurfing, boasting a long coastline with wind and waves. Every year, the Big Air Netherlands event brings together the country's best riders to compete for the national kitesurfing title.
This year, the event took place on October 14, 2023, and was a spectacle of adrenaline and epic tricks. 🏆
The winners were:
- In the women's category: @elsienzijlstra, a 19-year-old rider who demonstrated her talent and style with impressive jumps and technical maneuvers. 🥇
- In the men's category: @cohan_vandijk, a 27-year-old veteran rider who surprised everyone with his power and creativity in the air. 🥇
