PUPUYA, VI Region, Sunday, April 28, 2024.- With excellent wind conditions and 4-meter waves on Pupuya beach, the largest women's kitesurfing gathering in South America took place this weekend: "Ford Kite Girl Day." More than 50 athletes raised their sails to surf the large waves and perform jumps and tricks several meters high, an event that crowned Constanza Ulloa as the winner of the contest and taking the title of Queen of the Air 2024.
Second and third place in the pro category went to kitesurfers Magdalena Gabler and Renatta Parodi, respectively, and fourth place went to Martina Gómez in a close final. In the amateur category, first place went to Nicole Bar, Pilar Barros, Camila Romero, and Sofía Grez.
The diving competition also took place during the event, where awards were given to the competitors who reached the highest altitude in a highly technical wind. The winner was María José Toro, followed in the other places by Ivanna Walker, Magdalena Gabler, and Dominga Íñiguez.
This was the seventh edition of this women's kitesurfing event, which was characterized by being the first to be held on the demanding Pupuya beach in Region VI—after six occasions at the Puclaro reservoir—and which brought together the female kitesurfing community, revealing the high level of the discipline in Chile, and encouraging other young women to take up a sport as complete and challenging as kiteboarding.
“We are delighted with the large number of participants and the high level of skill demonstrated by the kitesurfers in all the events. I am proud to promote kitesurfing among women, that many have dared to compete for the first time and that others have been able to discover it. We hope that many more will join next year and that this community continues to grow every year,” commented Paula Villarroel, national champion kitesurfer and producer of the event.
Ford Kitegirl Day concluded with a competition awards ceremony, where all participants enjoyed some well-deserved relaxation with the Royal Guard at the La Lobera kitesurfing club.
