Congratulations to the Spanish runners-up 🇪🇸 Mar and Nia for winning the event here in Jericoacoara and securing another world title in the Freestyle-Slalom discipline.

A brief interview with runner-up Mar @mar_e279
Sueltalabarra: Hello Mar, how did you feel competing in Jericoacoara, especially when facing your rivals?
Mar: I wasn't very prepared for this competition because I was more of a goofy type and I'm a regular. Those doubts were resolved as soon as the first heat started and the tricks started coming out and the scores were the highest.
Sueltalabarra: Did the competition results meet your expectations?
Mar: Exceeded my expectations.
Sueltalabarra: What have you learned from this experience that you will apply in future competitions?
Mar: Many, it was complicated and beautiful, but I didn't manage to land that front-flip in the final that I did in the previous heats, by just one point to win this championship. I'm happy for that second, I'm eager to continue and get that first step.
Not just focusing on the end of the competition, but enjoying the heats, the preparation, staying calm throughout the heats. If the tricks come out great, and if not, then having the peace of mind of a job well done.
Sueltalabarra: What makes Jericoacoara such a special place to practice wingfoiling?
Mar: It's a very special place, and I've always heard about it since my life as a windsurfer. So many people come and there are such good conditions of strong winds and waves, you can't get bored here.
Sueltalabarra: Which tricks do you like the most? Because I see it was freestyle as well as slalom this time. Correct me if I'm wrong. 🙏
Mar: That's right, freestyle and slalom, without a doubt it's the Ftont-loop which is like the trick I did in windsurfing, forward-loop, and to this we add the palau which is now reaching the girls and raising the level.
And in Slalom, I reached the final and placed second, also winning the first final, but I was one point short of catching my rival, Nia, who was already number one in the rankings. I was very happy in Slalom, and as I mentioned, I exceeded my expectations.
Sueltalabarra: How important is the equipment in the performance of a wingfoiler?
Mar: The material in the wingfoil, if the rider is good you can do whatever you want, but in competition it affects a lot. I compete with Duotone and it is the latest in competition materials with very high quality, a plus that the rider appreciates in competition.
Sueltalabarra: Thank you for attending to the SUELTALABARRA community and the Alex365sport blog.
