Deury Corniel sets a new kitefoil record

Deury Corniel sets a new kitefoiling speed record in the Dominican Republic, reaching speeds exceeding 64 km/h.

The story began according to Deury:

Today I want to set a speed record in a Ford in the Dominican Republic. Currently, there's no official record, so I'm going to try to break 55 kilometers per hour, which is the top speed reached in Italy.

I started here in Cabarete about eight or nine years ago, where my motivation was born. Since then, I've been training at home, which gives me a lot of freedom, as it's a common place with excellent wind conditions.

Well, tomorrow will be Buen Hombre day, so get ready. We're at Buen Hombre Beach, which offers the best kiteboarding conditions in the world.

We're now on a remote island, and today we have a big challenge. At the last event in Italy, they reached a top speed of 32 knots. We're going to ask the boat captain to maintain a constant speed, and I'll try to exceed it with my Ford. That way, we'll know if I've managed to exceed that speed. When I get back to the beach, I'll check my GPS to see what my top speed was.

Kiteboarding is exciting because when you reach top speed, everything becomes very small, and you only have one line connecting you. The faster you try to go, the riskier it becomes, but in the end, it gives you a great feeling of being completely focused on speed.

I take this opportunity to thank my country, the Dominican Republic, for providing me with all these great opportunities.

Get ready for a tour of some of the Dominican Republic's best beaches, boasting crystal-clear waters and perfect kiteboarding conditions. Then watch as Deury and his team achieve record-breaking speeds on the island, reaching 40 mph.
