Rescatado en helicóptero un hombre a la deriva en una tabla de kitesurf

Man adrift on kitesurfing board rescued by helicopter

In an impressive rescue operation, a man who was adrift while kitesurfing in the Trabucador bar area, in the municipality of La Ràpita, was successfully rescued by a Maritime Rescue helicopter.
The emergency alert came from his own son, who watched anxiously as his father drifted further and further from the coast. The incident occurred around 1:00 p.m., and the victim has been brought back to his family in good condition.
The kitesurfer's son alerted authorities, indicating that his father was north of the bar and moving away from the coast. The man had been carrying a white board with a pink sail, although it had fallen off at some point during his journey. As the situation became more critical, the son practically lost sight of his father, prompting his help to guide the helicopter in the rescue.
Maritime Rescue acted quickly, deploying the Helimer 221 helicopter, based at Reus Airport, to carry out the rescue operation. However, the private company in charge of monitoring the La Ràpita beaches was unable to intervene due to a lack of resources. The Generalitat (Catalan regional government) firefighters also joined the effort, sending two crews from the Amposta fire station and one from the Móra fire station with a boat.
The rescue was carried out by the rescuer from the Helimer 221 helicopter, who descended into the water and managed to retrieve the kitesurfer at 1:37 p.m. Despite his fatigue, the victim was in good condition. The helicopter transported him back to Trabucador bar, where he was reunited with his family. The Maritime Rescue vessel Salvamar Achernar subsequently recovered the kitesurfing board and sail, returning to its base in La Ràpita.
This incident highlights the importance of the rapid response and effectiveness of rescue services in Spain. However, it also raises questions about the recklessness of some kitesurfers in areas like Trabucador, where rescues become more frequent each summer. Although water sports can be exciting and challenging, it is crucial that kitesurfers take appropriate safety precautions to avoid dangerous situations for themselves and those involved in rescue operations.
