Kitesurfing beyond the limits of age and ability.

After reading Tamara Ventura's article for the AS sports section, I thought I'd write a piece that might bring some peace of mind to those parents frightened by their children's "I want to kitesurf," but how am I going to achieve it? I'll introduce you to some kiters who practice this relaxing yet extreme sport. When you're done reading, let me know if you change your mind about kitesurfing.
Ready to change your perspective on kitesurfing?
THREE WATER BROTHER

Joaquín (12 years old), Charly (9 years old) and Álvaro (7 years old) are not just three brothers playing, they are the local heroes of Isla Canela who defy gravity. A few years ago and thanks to Instagram, they shared their passion for kitesurfing through this social network, making the adrenaline flow with each post. But these intrepid adventurers are not satisfied with just the waves, whether on twintip with their freestyle, on hydrofoil with upwind and long stretches worthy of the next Olympics or now I've seen them with wingfoil, they also launch themselves to conquer snowy mountains with their snowboards.
They are like a roller coaster and the best part is, they just arrived!
KLAUS FIETZ

While these three brothers are discovering the world of kiteboarding at a young age, at the other end of the spectrum is Klaus Fietz, who defies expectations and celebrates his eighty-first birthday riding the wind and waves in Gran Canaria. Yes, at 81 years old, Klaus doesn't just ride the waves; he also breaks stereotypes. For him, kitesurfing isn't just a sport; it's a philosophy of life. "It's unimaginable how safe it is," Klaus assures Tamara as he tells him how kitesurfing not only gives him a rush of emotions but also the energy to stay young.

Plus, a two-time Canary Islands karting champion! Klaus is living proof that age is just a number when it comes to pursuing your passions.

ADAPTED SCHOOLS

But wait, the story gets even more exciting! Imagine hearing the sound of the waves while you're in a wheelchair and suddenly, you find yourself gliding across the water. This isn't a dream; it's a reality thanks to adapted kitesurfing schools. They exist all over the world, breaking down barriers and making kitesurfing accessible to everyone. The Volare School in Valdevaqueros is a leader in this revolution, offering lessons for people with disabilities and proving that waves don't discriminate.
Every year, @worldsailingofficial hosts a #ParaKiteboarding clinic in Garda, Italy 🇮🇹. With participants from seven countries, the event is an official part of the Parasailing Development Program (PDP). Regardless of the age and ability limits, I'm left speechless. Watch this video by WILLEM HOOFT to get a sense of the spirit of self-improvement this adaptive sport fosters.
Kitesurfing is more than a sport; it's a lifestyle filled with exciting stories and unexpected heroes. From the fearless Three Water Brothers defying the laws of gravity to the legendary Klaus Fietz riding the waves of time, and the schools changing lives with adaptability and courage, kitesurfing is an adventure beyond what you can imagine.
