The Murtosa Kitefest 2023: An epic kiteboarding event

Last July 1 and 2, the first Kitefest organized by the Associação Portuguesa da Classe Kiteboard (APCKiteboard) in collaboration with Clube Nortada in Murtosa took place.

Organizing these kinds of wind-related events isn't easy. Finding the right conditions for a Bigair event is sometimes a matter of luck. After a cancellation and finally finding the right date by the organizers, the event was able to take place. With nearly 100 riders registered for the downwind event and almost 40 for the Bigair event, this event became an unforgettable moment for all kitesurfing enthusiasts, full of excitement, competitions, and demonstrations of the latest technologies and equipment from renowned brands such as SPLEENE, Ozone, and Duotone.
The first day of Murtosa Kitefest 2023 was simply incredible. From morning to night, the atmosphere was filled with energy and excitement. Here's a look at some highlights:
1️⃣ Equipment Demonstrations: Participants had the opportunity to witness demonstrations of the latest equipment and technologies in the world of kitesurfing. Brands such as SPLEENE, Ozone, and Duotone showcased their latest products, giving attendees a cutting-edge look at this exciting water sport.
2️⃣ Murtosa King of the Air: This competition took place in heats, where competitors showcased their skills and dexterity with impressive jumps. The sky filled with color as the kiteboarders soared to the top with incredible acrobatics and maneuvers.
3️⃣ Festive atmosphere at sunset: As the sun set, the atmosphere became magical. The sound of music and cocktails provided by Cutty Sark created a relaxed and festive atmosphere. Everyone present enjoyed the company of other kitesurfing enthusiasts and celebrated the celebration that the sport represents.

But that's not all. One of the most exciting moments of Murtosa Kitefest 2023 was the Murtosa King of the Air, an epic competition that left everyone in awe. Competitors demonstrated their talent and courage by conquering impressive heights and performing incredible acrobatics.

The Murtosa King of the Air 2023 was an intense and exciting competition that demonstrated the skill level of the participants. The winners in each category demonstrated their mastery of kiteboarding and their ability to perform dizzying jumps and spectacular maneuvers in the air.
Using SURFR technology to measure jumps, the participants pumped up the adrenaline of everyone in attendance. Here are the highlights from the rankings in the different categories:
In the Grand Masters category, João Cruz took first place with an impressive average jump of 9.12 meters. Paulo Magalhães and José Fernandes also demonstrated their skill, taking second and third place, respectively.

3rd José Fernandes - 4.82m
In the Masters category, Nuno Glória stood out with an average jump of 9.04 meters, taking first place. Pedro Marcelino and Ricardo Lopes also impressed, taking second and third place in this competitive category.

3rd Ricardo Lopes - 6.86m
In the Women's category, Nora Oberlaender took the win with an average jump of 9.15 meters. Daniela Botelho and Maria Balonas also put in incredible performances, taking second and third place in the women's category.

In the General/Open category, Paulino Pereira became the absolute king of the air with an average jump of 10.7 meters. Adriano Coutinho and Sérgio Lopes also stood out, taking second and third place, respectively, in a fierce competition.
