Speed and adrenaline fans of SUELTALABARRA 💨 The 54th Princess Sofia Trophy Mallorca 2025 has come to a close, leaving us with some epic battles in the Formula Kite class. And there were some new developments and surprises at the Reina Sofia. 🌊
This prestigious event, held in the always spectacular Palma de Mallorca, has brought together the best of kitefoiling in the world. But this year's edition had a special ingredient: the return to competition of a legend, the newly crowned Olympic champion Ellie Aldridge 🥇.

After intense preparation for the Paris 2024 Games and subsequent commitments to the Women's America's Cup and SailGP Championship with Sir Ben Ainslie's team, the British rider needed a break. However, the call of the waves and the adrenaline rush of kiting are irresistible, and Aldridge decided to participate in this Princess Sofia Trophy, one of only two kite competitions she has planned for this season, thanks to Ellie.
"This is the only event I'll be doing this year until the World Championships in September," Aldridge confessed. Her main plan is to train at home, avoiding the constant travel rush. But the opportunity to join SailGP has changed her plans, taking her back to traveling the world. "It's amazing to be here and see everyone again. I'm not focused on trying to be the best kitesurfer this year. It's more of a year to see what happens with the fleet, what happens with all the new equipment."

The topic of materials is precisely one of the hot spots this season. With an eye on the next Olympic cycle, several brands are competing to design and manufacture the fastest kites and foils. If in the previous cycle, Flysurfers dominated the skies in the months leading up to the Games, now other brands such as Ozone and Element have introduced their new generations of kites , seeking to capture a share of the market. What will happen and where will we see improvements in materials? At dejalabarra.com, I will continue to support Flysurfer. I know the brand well, and I also sell it. I find it to be of unsurpassed quality. Time will tell.
Aldridge took it easy on the new equipment: "I'm still using my Olympic gear and haven't used it much." Her participation in this Princess Sofia Trophy proves that the kite flame is still alive in her, even though her main focus is on other projects for now.
Here are the final classifications for the 2025 Princess Sofia Trophy Formula Kite:
